　　一般指除夕和正月初一，是一年的第一天,又叫陰歷年。但在民間，傳統意義上的春節是指從臘月初八的臘祭或臘月二十三或二十四的祭灶，一直到正月十五，其中以除夕和正月初一為高潮。在春節期間，中國的漢族和很多少數民族都要舉行各種活動(dòng)以示慶祝。這些活動(dòng)均以祭祀神佛、祭奠祖先、除舊布新、迎禧接福、祈求豐年為主要內容�；顒�(dòng)豐富多彩，帶有濃郁的民族特色。

　　春節的名稱(chēng)隨著(zhù)時(shí)間而變化

　　春節不同時(shí)代有不同名稱(chēng)。在先秦時(shí)叫“上日”、“元日”、“改歲”、“獻歲”等;到了兩漢時(shí)期，又被叫為“三朝”、“歲旦”、“正旦”、“正日”;魏晉南北朝時(shí)稱(chēng)為“元辰”、“元日”、“元首”、 “歲朝”等;到了唐宋元明，則稱(chēng)為“元旦”、“元”、“歲日”、“新正”、“新元”等;而清代，一直叫“元旦”或“元日”。

　　1911年12月31日，中華民國湖北軍政府在發(fā)布的《內務(wù)部關(guān)于中華民國改用陽(yáng)歷的通諭》中，明確將年節稱(chēng)為“春節”。到1949年9月27日，中國人民政治協(xié)商會(huì )議第一屆全體會(huì )議進(jìn)一步明確農歷正月初一稱(chēng)為“春節”，“春節”之名正式列入中國節日法典。

　　在歷史上的不同朝代，春節的時(shí)間也不一樣。夏代以一月為一年之首;商代以十二月為歲首，周代以十一月為歲首，秦代以十月為歲首。西漢時(shí)，漢武帝下詔推行太初歷，才明確規定一月初一為歲首，以之為夏歷新年。

　　春節在公歷1月21日至2月20日之間游動(dòng)。立春則一般在2月4日或2月5日。
