【Adventure in the World of Nature在自然界中探險】
One stormy autumn night when my grandnephew Roger was about twenty months old I wrapped him in a blanket and carried him down to the beach in the rainy darkness.Out there,just at the edge of where-we-couldn't-see big waves were thundering in,dimly seen white shapes that boomed and shouted and threw great handfuls of forth at us. Together we laughed for pure joy-he a baby meeting for the first time the wild tumult of oceanus, I wish the salt of half a lifetime of sea love in me.e But I think we felt the same spine-tingling response to the vast, roaring ocean and the wild night around us.

A night or two later the storm had blown itself out and I took Roger again to the beach, this time to carry him along the water's edge, piercing the darkness with the yellow cone of our flashlight. Although there was no rain the night was again noisy with breaking waves and the insistent wind. It was clearly a time and place where great and elemental things prevailed.
一兩個(gè)晚上以后，暴風(fēng)雨平息了，我帶著(zhù)羅杰再次來(lái)到海邊。這一次我抱著(zhù)他沿著(zhù)水邊漫步，手電筒射出的錐形的黃色光芒穿透了黑暗。雖然沒(méi)有下雨，海浪的巨響和持續的風(fēng)聲使得夜晚一樣喧鬧。顯然，就在此時(shí)此地，偉大的自然的力量盡顯無(wú)疑。
One adventure on this particular night had to do with life, for we were searching for ghost crabs, those sand-colored, fleet-legged beings which Roger had sometimes glimpsed briefly on the beaches in daytime. But the crabs are chietly nocturnal, and when not roaming the night beaches they dig little pits near the surf line where they hide, seemingly watching and waiting for what the sea may bring themm. For me the sight of these small living creatures, solitary and fragile against the brute force of the sea, had moving philosophic overtones, and I do not pretend that Roger and I reacted with similar emotions. But it was good to see his infant acceptance of a world of elemental things,fearing neither the song of the wind nor the darkness nor the roaring surf, entering with baby excitement into the search for a " ghos."

It was hardly a conventional way to entertain one so young, I suppose, but now,with Ruger a little past his fourth birthday, we are continuing that sharing of adventures in the world of nature that we began in his babyhood, and I think the results are good. The sharing includes nature in storm as well as calm, by night as well as day, and is based on having tun together rather than on teaching.

There is an old Spanish Proverb which states, "Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week". How many times have we put off our dreams until tomorrow? I’d say, way too many. Our dreams should not, and cannot wait. We have to go for them now! Here’s why.
有句古老的西班牙諺語(yǔ)：明天常常是一周中最忙碌的一天。有多少次我們曾把夢(mèng)想托付給明天?要我說(shuō)，太多次。夢(mèng)想不應等待，也經(jīng)不起等待。我們必須馬上行動(dòng)。道理如下：
1. Tomorrow is not promised
明天不一定到來(lái)
Nobody likes to talk about death, but the reality is – everybody is going to die at one point. None of us know the day, or the hour. Therefore, today is all we have. Don’t go to your grave with unfulfilled dreams. Make the decision to go after every dream, big or small right now.
沒(méi)人愿意談?wù)撍劳�，但現實(shí)是——死亡必然到來(lái)。哪一天或哪一刻沒(méi)人能說(shuō)得清。所以，我們真正擁有的是今天。不要因未實(shí)現夢(mèng)想抱憾而終。夢(mèng)想，或偉大或平凡，不論怎樣，從即刻起，作出追逐每個(gè)夢(mèng)想的決定。
2. The world is waiting on your gift
世界需要你
I know this may be hard to believe, but the world is waiting on YOU! Yes, YOU! You were born into the world with a unique gift, which nobody on this earth can duplicate. Sure, other people may be able to sing. But they’ll never be able to sing exactly like you. Sure other people can write, but they’ll never be able to write from the same perspective in which you write. Don’t deprive the world of your gift. It’s the oxygen that we need to survive. Thus, it is your responsibility to figure out exactly what your gift is, and use to better your life and the lives of those around you.
我知道，可能你不相信，但是世界的確需要你!是的，就是你!你在這個(gè)世界上獨一無(wú)二，地球上無(wú)人可以替代。當然，有的人可能歌唱得好，但是，他們的風(fēng)格卻總是有別于你的。有的人擅長(cháng)寫(xiě)作，但是他們卻永遠不能站在你的視角來(lái)描述事物。不要對世界吝惜你的天賦。它是我們生存需要的氧氣。因此，發(fā)掘并利用自己的天賦，承擔起改善自己和他人生活的責任。
3. Unless you take the first step, your dreams will never come true
如果跨不出第一步，夢(mèng)想將終歸是夢(mèng)想
You can dream about writing the great American play all you want, but it’s never going to happen unless you actually put pen to paper. You can dream about finding a cure for cancer, but it will never happen unless you actually go to school to become equipped with the necessary tools to find that cure. In other words, dreams don’t work unless you do. They require you to get your head out of the clouds, and actually do the work to make them happen. Get to it!
寫(xiě)出一部偉大的美劇是你的最大夢(mèng)想，但是，如果不拿起筆，這部偉大的美劇將永遠不會(huì )問(wèn)世。你夢(mèng)想找到治愈癌癥的良方，但是，如果你不學(xué)習，不用發(fā)現良方所需的工具和手段來(lái)武裝自己，那僅是紙上談兵。換句話(huà)說(shuō)，除非身體力行，否則夢(mèng)想終歸是夢(mèng)想。實(shí)現夢(mèng)想要求你別再做白日夢(mèng)，而是朝著(zhù)夢(mèng)想努力。所以，馬上行動(dòng)吧!
4.You can’t let fear win

One of the biggest dream killers is fear. There are so many people who could have achieved amazing things if only they weren’t afraid. Just think about all the things you’ve wanted to do, but allowed fear to convince you that you weren’t capable, or good enough. In the movie After Earth, Will Smith’s character says, "Fear is not real. It is a product of thoughts you create. Do not misunderstand me. Danger is very real. But fear is a choice." Choose not to let fear stop you from achieving your dreams.
恐懼是夢(mèng)想最可怕的殺手。要是能夠克服恐懼，很多人能夠成就大事。想想那些你一直想做，但被不具備能力、或者不夠好的擔心懾服而放棄的事情。在電影《重返地球》中，威爾·史密斯飾演的角色說(shuō)：“恐懼并不真實(shí)存在，僅是思想的產(chǎn)物。別誤會(huì )。危險真實(shí)存在，但是恐懼是一種選擇。”選擇不要讓恐懼成為你實(shí)現夢(mèng)想的障礙。
5. Possibilities you never knew existed are waiting on you
不做，你永遠不知道機會(huì )在等你
There are so many amazing opportunities and people waiting on you. Films festivals, panels, boards, the top people in your field, all these things are waiting on you! How do you get to them? Simple. Follow your dream. Doors that you couldn’t imagine open up when you go after what you want. You’ll never see those doors if you sit around waiting on a dream to happen, instead of actually working to make it happen.
有太多大好的機會(huì )，有太多人對你拭目以待。電影節、事務(wù)委員會(huì )、董事會(huì )、你領(lǐng)域的精英團體，所有這些都在恭候你的光臨!你怎能與它們親密接觸?簡(jiǎn)單得很，隨夢(mèng)而行。追逐夢(mèng)想時(shí)，那些你無(wú)法想像的大門(mén)為你敞開(kāi)。如果坐等夢(mèng)想實(shí)現，而不是通過(guò)努力去實(shí)現夢(mèng)想，你將永遠看不到那些門(mén)。
6. You’ll be much happier if you go for it

Imagine how much happier you’ll be if you’re living the life you always dreamed about. The only thing that is stopping you, is you. Take control of your own happiness. Don’t keep your dreams waiting. Go after them today!
想像一下，如果你過(guò)著(zhù)夢(mèng)想的生活，你會(huì )多么快樂(lè )。阻止你追逐夢(mèng)想的只有你自己。把握自己的幸福，不要讓夢(mèng)想等待。從今天開(kāi)始，就朝著(zhù)夢(mèng)想進(jìn)發(fā)吧!
【只有時(shí)間才知道愛(ài)的珍貴】
Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love.
很久以前，有一座孤島，島上住著(zhù)所有的情感：快樂(lè )，憂(yōu)傷，知識，以及剩余的其他感情，其中也包括了愛(ài)。有一天，情感們得知，這座小島將要沉沒(méi)，他們都開(kāi)始建造船只準備離開(kāi)。除了一個(gè)人，愛(ài)。
Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment.

When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.

Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said,"Richness, can you take me with you?"

Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!"
這時(shí)，愛(ài)的身側，虛榮架著(zhù)一艘靚麗的輪船緩緩駛來(lái)，愛(ài)決定向虛榮求助：“虛榮，求求你幫幫我吧!”
"I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.
虛榮拒絕了：“我不能幫你，愛(ài)。你全身濕嗒嗒地，這會(huì )弄臟我心愛(ài)的船的。”
Sadness was close by so Love asked, "Sadness, let me go with you."
愛(ài)向近在咫尺的憂(yōu)傷渴求道：“憂(yōu)傷，讓我和你一起吧。
"Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"
“噢。。。愛(ài)，我實(shí)在是太傷心了，我需要一個(gè)人靜一會(huì )兒。”
Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her.
快樂(lè )也從愛(ài)的身邊駛過(guò)，但是她太高興了，以至于完全沒(méi)有聽(tīng)到愛(ài)的呼喚。
Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come, Love, I will take you." It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder, Love asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who Helped me?"
突然，一個(gè)聲音映入耳簾，“快上了，愛(ài)，我來(lái)載你。”原來(lái)是名年邁的長(cháng)者。愛(ài)如聞天籟，興奮不已，甚至忘了問(wèn)問(wèn)長(cháng)者要他們要去往何方。當他們在一片干涸之地靠岸時(shí)，長(cháng)者又踏上了自己的征程，獨自前行。愛(ài)意識到自己虧欠老者甚多，她趕忙詢(xún)問(wèn)智慧老人，“幫助我的人是誰(shuí)呀?”
"It was Time," Knowledge answered.
知識靜靜地答道：“那是時(shí)間。”
"Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"
“時(shí)間?”愛(ài)問(wèn)道，“但時(shí)間為什么要幫助我呢?”
Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is."
知識微微一笑，飽含深意，回答說(shuō)：“因為只有時(shí)間才知道愛(ài)的珍貴價(jià)值。”
