航海英語(yǔ)的詞匯特點(diǎn)
由于航海英語(yǔ)的專(zhuān)業(yè)化特點(diǎn)，詞匯學(xué)習成為重點(diǎn)，也是學(xué)習的難點(diǎn)。但是經(jīng)過(guò)仔細分析，掌握其特點(diǎn)，則有助于對詞匯的記憶和文篇的理解。
1. 大量應用次專(zhuān)業(yè)詞匯
次專(zhuān)業(yè)詞匯是現有的普通詞匯加上新的專(zhuān)業(yè)詞義構成。如：
Work is the transfer ofenergy expressed as the product of a force and the distance through which its point of application moves in the direction of the force.
在這句話(huà)中，work，energy，product和force都是由普通英語(yǔ)借用而來(lái)，它們的含義變成“功”、“能”、“乘積”和“力。”
2. 名詞化結構
名詞化是將動(dòng)詞轉化成名詞，但仍保留其含義。如：
The earth rotates on itsaxis, which causes the change from day to night.→The rotation of the earth on its axis causes the changefrom day to night.
航海英語(yǔ)文體要求行文簡(jiǎn)介、表達客觀(guān)、內容確切、信息量大、強調事實(shí)的存在，所以常用名詞化結構表達。
名詞修飾詞，有時(shí)有兩個(gè)或多個(gè)名詞疊加起來(lái)用以修飾中心詞。如：pressure vessel，fire tube boiler
3. 分詞用做形容詞
現在分詞具有主動(dòng)性，而過(guò)去分詞具有被動(dòng)性。如：
cutting tool= a tool whichis used to cut something
coated electrode= an electrode which has been coated
4. 雙詞或多詞合成形容詞
使用連字符將雙詞或多詞進(jìn)行連接，用做形容詞。如：
remote-reading water level indicators, on-and-off-the-road vehicles
5. 廣泛使用縮略詞
為了節省時(shí)間和篇幅并方便識記，航海英語(yǔ)文章常常使用縮略詞，特別是在表格、圖紙的文字說(shuō)明中，在技術(shù)設備與產(chǎn)品的規格說(shuō)明中，在工藝過(guò)程的描述中以及在刊物的名稱(chēng)中，多略次的使用更加不受限制。如：GMDSS，EMS，TELESAT。
在應急情況下使用雙方均能理解的縮略詞可以凸顯事件的緊迫感和嚴重感，方便采取行動(dòng)。
6. 上下文中使用同義詞
為了避免重復，在同一篇文章中，作者有時(shí)使用不同的詞匯指代相同的事物。如：
飛機： plane, aeroplane, airplane, flying machine, aircraft
自卸車(chē)：dumper skip, dumping body
Suppose the navigator of a shipwanted to know the depth of water beneath his vessel.
Main and crankpin bearings are split into halves. Connecting rod and crankshaft bearings are of the split type.
詞匯的作用是傳達意義，協(xié)助理解，因此對于航海英語(yǔ)詞匯的學(xué)習不僅在于記憶，更在于理解和運用。
