　　連詞while除具有當時(shí)、同時(shí)等意義外，根據上下文還有以下不同含義及其不同譯法。

　　一、引導時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)從句

　　譯作當時(shí)。例如：

　　1. Make hay while the sun shines.

　　趁著(zhù)有太陽(yáng)曬曬草。（乘機行事，抓緊時(shí)機。）

　　2. We must work hard to gain more knowledge while we are young.

　　二、引導讓步狀語(yǔ)從句

　　常放在句首，譯作盡管、雖然，比although或 though語(yǔ)氣要輕。例如：

　　2. While any kind of athletic shoe can provide a certain amount of rebound，energy-return sneakers are designed to maximize this effect.

　　三、引導條件狀語(yǔ)從句

　　相當于as long as，譯作只要。例如：

　　1. While there is life，there is hope.

　　有生命，就有希望。
