An Analysis of God in The Color Purple

Abstract

Alice Walker is one of three famous black women writer in American. The Color Purple is an epistolary novel. As a receiver, God play an important role in this novel. In Celie’s mind, God is not just a changing image, but also encourages her from a weak-kneed woman to a confident and staunch woman. As a traditional woman, Celie looks for God in the letter, but she doesn’t find anything. She considers that God is just a listener and can not bring anything to her. However, Shug who is a modern woman believes God is the symbol of freedom, equality and humanity, and encourages Celie to look for God through fighting for the proper rights. Therefore, Celie free herself successfully, and understands that the best way of adoring God is to enjoy the life and love each other. Man is not God and woman also has her own rights. Only the person who is full of self-confidence and lives with dignity is the real people.

摘要

    艾麗絲•沃克是美國3大著(zhù)名黑人女作家之1�！蹲仙�》是1部長(cháng)篇書(shū)信體小說(shuō)，上帝作為收信人在小說(shuō)中占有重要的地位。上帝在西莉的頭腦中不僅僅是1個(gè)不斷變化的意象，還鼓勵她從1個(gè)懦弱可欺的女人變成1個(gè)自信堅強的女人。作為1名傳統女性，西莉在信中尋找上帝，但是她沒(méi)有得到任何東西。她認為上帝只是1個(gè)聽(tīng)眾而且不能給她帶來(lái)任何東西。然而作為現代女性的莎格則認為上帝是自由、平等和人權的象征，并且鼓勵西莉要在爭取應有權利的斗爭中去尋找上帝。因此，西莉成功的解脫了自己。并且明白了享受生活并待人以愛(ài)才是崇拜上帝的最好方式。男人不是上帝，婦女也有自己的權利，只有充滿(mǎn)自信和有尊嚴活著(zhù)的人才是1個(gè)真正的人。
