The Manifestation of Hemingway’s Life Philosophy in “The Old Man and the Sea”
Abstract
Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) was a famous writer in America in the 20th century. The Old Man and the Sea was his representative work which won the Nobel Prize of literature in 1954. The main character Santiago does not catch a single fish for eighty-four days but he does not lose confidence. Finally, he hooks a giant marlin. In the struggling process of the old man’s fighting against the giant marlin and sharks, Hemingway’s philosophy of life is fully manifested: when facing the cruel social reality and miserable fate, man should be brave and struggle with all the pains and sufferings; what’s more, man should hold hope and confidence forever, loving life and treasuring life. This life philosophy is fully reflected in The Old Man and the Sea by using symbols, making us understand Hemingway better.

摘 要
厄內斯特•海明威（1899-1961）是美國210世紀著(zhù)名的作家�！独先伺c�！肥撬拇碜鞑⒂�1954年獲得諾貝爾文學(xué)獎。在這部作品中，小說(shuō)主人公圣地亞哥在8104天沒(méi)有捕到1條魚(yú)的情況下，卻沒(méi)有失去信心和希望，仍然孤獨的1人出海，終于釣到了1條罕見(jiàn)的馬林魚(yú)。在同馬林魚(yú)和鯊魚(yú)進(jìn)行了不屈不饒的搏斗中，海明威的人生哲學(xué)得到了充分體現：在殘酷的社會(huì )現實(shí)和命運之中，人應該勇敢的面對1切痛苦和磨難，并與之進(jìn)行斗爭；同時(shí)，對生活要充滿(mǎn)希望，對未來(lái)充滿(mǎn)信心。而他的這種人生哲學(xué)通過(guò)運用象征的手法在《老人與�！愤@部作品中展現得淋漓盡致，使人們能更好更全面地理解海明威。
