An Analysis of Narrative Techniques in Great Expectations

Abstract

Charles Dickens (1812-1870) is a great English novelist who claming an universal fame. He wrote so many novels during his lifetime. The Great Expectations, as one of his most popular novels, is famous for his narrative techniques. It is his narrative techniques that lead his great achievements. In Great Expectations, Dickens used the limited perspective to introduce Pip’s position, and used three pairs of contradictions to expound Pip and other people’s characteristics. Dickens made “crime and punishment” and “nobility and award” as it’s deeper structure, which is the interpretation of dialectical relationship between good and evil. As Pip is the narrator, he uses his own perspective to show the life of himself and the people around him. In the light of narratology, Great Expectations is a successful work.

摘 要

查理斯.狄更斯是1位享有盛譽(yù)的英國小說(shuō)家。在他有生之年創(chuàng )作了許多作品。作為狄更斯最暢銷(xiāo)的作品之1，《遠大前程》以其敘事技巧而著(zhù)名。正是狄更斯的敘事技巧創(chuàng )造了他偉大的成就。在《遠大前程》中，狄更斯用了限制性的透視法來(lái)說(shuō)明匹普的地位，并用了3對矛盾具體地闡述了匹普以及其他人物的個(gè)性。狄更斯以犯罪就要受懲罰，誠實(shí)正直就會(huì )得到獎勵作為其深層的敘事結構，詮釋了善與惡的辨證關(guān)系。匹普是作為敘述者，他從自己的角度，向人們展示了他和和周?chē)�人的生活。從敘事學(xué)角度看，《遠大前程》是1部非常成功的作品。
