On Characteristics of Scarlett’s Role from Transformation of Her Values

Abstract

Gone with the Wind is the only novel of Margaret Mitchell, a popular American female writer. The novel is set in the social background of the Civil War and the Reconstruction era. It depicts Scarlett’s unique characteristics by describing her life experience and love story. The Thesis mainly focuses on Scarlett’s characteristics on the basis of the transformation of her value. Scarlett’s value pasts three stages:“l(fā)ove center”—“ money talks”—“family center”, with the transformation of her value, Scarlett’s characteristics change unceasingly: Before the Civil War, she is a pure girl who seeks for love. When the Civil War breaks, she faces difficulties and pressure and becomes a crazy businesswoman for money. At the end of the Civil War, she turns her center of gravity to the family and becomes a wife in real meaning who cares about her husband and children.

摘  要

《飄》是美國女作家瑪格麗特•米切爾1生唯1出版的1部長(cháng)篇小說(shuō)。小說(shuō)以109世紀610年代美國的南北戰爭和戰后重建時(shí)期為背景。通過(guò)描述斯佳麗的生命歷程和愛(ài)情生活，精心地刻畫(huà)了她獨特的性格特征。本文在以斯佳麗的價(jià)值觀(guān)轉換為切入點(diǎn)分析其角色特征。斯佳麗的價(jià)值觀(guān)經(jīng)歷了“愛(ài)情中心”—— “金錢(qián)至上”——“家庭中心”的3個(gè)階段，而伴隨著(zhù)價(jià)值觀(guān)的轉變，她的角色也在不斷地變化。戰前，她是1個(gè)涉世未深，追求愛(ài)情的少女，戰爭爆發(fā)后，在生活的壓力和困難面前，她變成了1個(gè)不顧1切追求金錢(qián)的生意人。最后當戰爭結束時(shí) 她才明白生活的真諦和人生的意義，于是把重心轉向了家庭，成為了1個(gè)在乎丈夫和孩子的真正意義上的妻子。
